The Journey Begins...

It's been a week now, officially. I've been in ministry one week.

I'm both exhausted and exhilarated, cautious and eager, unsure of myself and confident enough to believe I can do this through Christ's strength.

What a whirlwind week it has been! Starting two jobs on the same day probably wasn't the wisest thing I've ever done, but I've never been someone for half-measures. If I'm going to do it, I'm all in. So I started teaching at my old high school and began at the church on the same day. And I love it! I love the insanity of mentally (and geographically) switching between two jobs each day. I love the amount of people that God has placed in my life to serve, love and minister to in so many different capacities. And I love the joy and peace that comes with knowing that God has laid the path before my feet, and if I remain in Him, he will not lead me astray.

The theme verse of this blog is 2 Peter 3:18.
"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen."

Even though I officially started working for the church last week, this isn't the beginning of the journey. It didn't even start with the many months of prayer, asking God where he was leading me in all this. It started a great deal before all that, because this journey isn't about me, and it isn't about all the programs that we organize and implement for the children. It's about God's truth being proclaimed, and hearts being won to the gospel. The journey started long before me, and unless Christ returns, it will continue long after I'm gone. God's gospel will continue to go forth and reach all the world. It's simply a matter of us as believers choosing to be a part of that mission. 

I'm excited to share my portion of this journey with you. There will be ups and downs; moments that feel impossible, and exciting times reflecting on the way God has blessed our efforts. But in the end, what I desire is that we are all growing in the grace and knowledge of our awesome Saviour. He gets all the glory!

The Gospel Project for Kids

As a Children's Ministry Director, there is nothing better than finding material that you can trust. (Ok...I suppose if I was super spiritual I would say Jesus is the best...but seriously, good material is REALLY important!) In the constant search for curriculum, lessons and materials that present the Gospel in a true, relevant and easy-to-prepare format, you know that when you find a good one, you're going to hang on to it! The Gospel Project for Kids is one of those resources. We are in our second year using this program, and we love it. My leaders have commented how much they are learning week to week preparing lessons for their students, and we have all seen an improvement in the basic biblical knowledge of our kids over the past years. The emphasis on the unity of Scriptures, the single story of God's plan for salvation, has been a huge benefit to our students. Jesus Storybook Bible

I can hardly believe it: attendance records are up-to-date, Sunday School is set and ready to go, volunteers are lined up and reminded....I feel like I'm actually caught up at the moment! (I'm choosing to ignore that it's nearly 6pm and I'm still at the church!) I wanted to share another gem I've come across and use routinely in our programs here at the church. The Jesus Storybook Bible is a lovely resource for your younger children. The illustrations by Jago are whimsical and thought-provoking, and the way Sally Lloyd-Jones ties together a mastery of words with the Big Picture of the Bible is extremely effective. The Jesus Storybook Bible has a curriculum as well that can be used as a Sunday school or mid-week program. We haven't used the program yet, but I keep a stash of these Bibles in my Toddler room to use on Sunday mornings, and I have another stash ready to hand out to new families that don't have a family devotional time, or are new to ch
